Did you know ... you have the ability to change your life? Right now. Even in the midst of this pandemic, you are extremely capable of living a more fulfilling and better life. There is a vast array of articles, books, videos, tutorials etc. out there that tell people, in order to achieve a better life, all you need to do; is visualise it. Imagine vast amounts of money. Imagine that dream house. That's all good and well but that's not going to bring about the change you crave, right now. If anything the majority of these resources out there, instil this sense of, yes a better life is coming for you. This suggests that you don't already have a great life now which isn't true.
If you're reading this, you undoubtedly have access to the internet. According to www.statista.com, about 59% of the world's population use the internet. That's just over half of the world's population. The fact that you have access to the internet immediately opens up a set of new doors for you on a daily even hourly basis. The opportunity to discover and learn is literally in your hands. This might seem like an irrelevant side note but you'll discover the relevance further down this article.
Without further ado, here are three tips to help change your life right now.
1. BREATHE
As of now. Stop for thirty seconds and focus on your breathing. Inhale for five seconds ... and exhale for five seconds. Inhale. Count to five. Exhale. One, two, three, four, five. Final inhale ... two, three, four ... and ... exhale. This is the first way to bring some sense of control back for yourself and hey presto, you've changed your life, haha! Well you've triumphantly taken the first step at least.
We are inundated on a daily basis with so many distractions, that it often becomes so easy to forget the simple task of breathing. Controlled breathing, is an extremely fast and effective way to combat those wayward thoughts that plague our brains. It is the best way to quiet that erratic, troublesome monkey mind. Most importantly, it brings you back into the present, which is where we need to be.
Also a fun fact; when your body and mind are in a relaxed state, it is far easier to learn and retain information.
So sink back in that chair or bed and use the "five seconds in and five seconds out", technique once more.
2. GRATITUDE
The information I'm sharing with you is nothing new. It is a widely known step used with The Law of Attraction. Those who promote The Law of Attraction, will tell you, in order to attract what you want, you need to be grateful for what you have.
This is true but forget about the attraction bit for now. To show gratitude for what you have is an immediate mood booster. This is what we're striving for here. To change your life right now. To change the way, you currently feel about your life right now.
So let’s do it. We’re going to list the things that we’re grateful for. If you’ve found your mind wandering back to any financial worries, family issues, disputes or conflicts that you have … repeat step one and … inhale for five. One, two, three, four, five. Exhale. One … two … three … four … five.
What’s one thing you are grateful for?
Are you grateful for the home you’re in? The electricity that powers your home. The water that runs through your taps.
Is there one material object you can’t live without? Your phone. Your gaming console. Your fridge. If you are lucky to have any of these, be aware that there are unfortunately a lot of people out there that don’t have the same luxuries or indeed, access to them.
How often do you stop and give gratitude for your friends and family? If you've had falling outs with either in the past, are you grateful for the lessons they brought you?
Are you grateful that you overcame those hardships? Are you grateful they are a part of your past?
If that is too much to be grateful for then what about basic necessities like air, food and water?
If you thought you weren’t already abundant, you’re wrong.
All too often in this day and age we compare ourselves to others or we compare what we don’t have to those that do. Try comparing your life to someone who hasn’t got what you have and guaranteed you will start to feel more gratitude.
3. BE PROACTIVE
Once you’ve gotten step one and two out of the way, it’ll be easier for you to focus on what you do want. Again, society, especially that of first world countries seems to focus on what they don’t have. A heavily saturated commercial market is to blame for this mind set. This is why it’s important to figure out what you do want and make the necessary steps towards that.
Your brain initially will try to find obstacles. This is when we operate in a fear driven frequency. In order to raise that frequency, it’s important to bring yourself back into the present and remind yourself that you are magnificently abundant already.
You have the internet at your fingertips. Set goals for yourself. Even if they're seemingly small, such as getting up in the morning and doing one household chore or researching something that peaks your interest.
Starting small will lead to focusing on bigger goals. Once you set those bigger goals for yourself, be sure to at least do one thing each day towards reaching that goal. There is always something you can do towards your goals, regardless of circumstance or time.
I work full time, yet in my free time I make sure to do as much writing as I can. I also want to get my driver's license this year. This is a great example, as all of the test centers have been forced to close, so I can't actually take my test. That doesn't stop me from working my way towards that goal. I can still learn theory. I can research what vehicle I want to get.
Before Covid-19, whatever free time I had would be spent writing or working on films, be it in front of or behind the camera. There are times I wish I could work from home or even be quarantined just so I had more time to focus on my goals but I’m also grateful for the small sense of normality of going out to work. I’m grateful for my health and I also take a moment or two to focus on my breathing, especially when I find my own monkey mind wreaking havoc.
The biggest lesson of this year for the world, I think, is the power of perception. Yes, this virus is extremely serious and the after-effects will prove challenging at times but that has yet to pass. If you can take some time out each day, away from social media and the news and bring yourself back to the present moment, you will imediately see that you've changed your life. Every moment presents a choice. We can choose to be in that moment or watch it pass by then wonder when the next one's coming.
If you’ve always wanted to learn a new skill, there is a well of knowledge waiting for you to tap into it. A lot of that knowlegde is FREE with search engines like Google, YouTube or Ecosia. Forget sitting and waiting for things to come to you. This is where The Law of Attraction has been misinterpreted to a certain degree. It most certainly doesn’t work like that. You need to make the first steps.
